Everything We Do is for the Praise and Glory of God

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31
Do not neglect to do good and share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
— Hebrews 13:16
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will be bursting with wine.
— Proverbs 3:9-10
Then the people rejoiced because they have given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord…
— Hebrews 13:15

Everything we do, we need to do it for the praise and glory of God.

Everything.

In even the most mundane tasks, we can praise God. In even the more boring of little things — like picking up the trash, or filling our car with gas, or eating a snack — we can honor God. This may seem a little silly; honestly, how can someone honor God by something so rudimentary as cleaning out the sink?

Well, let’s take a look at what’s involved in cleaning out a sink:

  •  Time taken out of your day (sacrifice; Romans 12:1).

  •  Others may use that sink, too (kindness; Galatians 6:2).

  •  It’s kind of gross (selflessness; Romans 12:1).

  •  You are being responsible with what God has given you (stewardship; Luke 16:10).

See, just like that, cleaning out the sink can bring honor and glory to God. And if something so mundane and gross and boring can bring glory to God, everything else that we do — everything we consider fun, glamorous, enjoyable, etc. — should also be done to the praise and glory of God.

This includes our creativity, our talents, and the task that God has put in front of us. We can praise Him for the tools that we have been given, for the minds and emotions that allow us to create things, and for the time to spend in our creative endeavors. Then, as we work, we can glorify Him by offering up our creations as a sacrifice to Him, for His use.

As Christians, everything we do is a higher calling; we don’t need to look for anything further! Let us glorify and praise God in everything, from the mundane to our favorite projects!

Putting it into Action: pick your least favorite task. Maybe it is doing the dishes or cleaning the toilet or checking the mail. Go do it and, as your work, analyze the ways that completing this task can glorify God. Is it good stewardship? Is it a selfless act for others? Is it a blessing?

Additionally, look at see what blessings God has given you with this task. Is there food to cook dinner with, no matter how humble? Is there green grass to mow? Are there good clothes to wear, even if they need to be folded? Recognize these blessings and take a moment to praise God for what He has given you!
