God Created All Things

All things were made through Him, and without Him not anything made that was made.
— John 1:3
Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things and by your will they existed and were created.
— Revelation 4:11
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
— Hebrews 11:3

Have you ever taken a moment to really look at a platypus? Yes, obviously they’re weird on a surface level and strange in the fact that they are mammals that lay eggs and nurse young, but have you really stopped to look at them? Compared to, say, a beaver or a river otter, or even a capybara, they are weird. Even, in fact, comparing a river otter to a capybara makes either creature seem a bit odd. Compared to the otter, the capybara is more like a deer and compared to the capybara, the otter is more like a ferret, even though they are both semi-aquatic mammals!

What about a mantis shrimp? Bright and colorful, these bizarre shrimp can punch their prey so fast it creates a flash of light and boils the surrounding water, causing an underwater vacuum. That’s weird.

The oddities don’t begin and end with animals, however, there are also very weird plants. For example, the starfish plant, which — a bit intuitively — looks like a starfish, but it also smells like rotting meat to attract flies as pollinators. Most flowers smell nice and attract bees.

Or even beyond the biological world, did you know that all elements have a triple point of pressure and temperature where they freeze, melt, and boil at the same time? And that sometimes in the arctic, the world turns bubblegum pink due to the sunrise reflecting off the clouds and snow?

All of these things, all of these weird and wondrous things, were specifically and meticulously created by God.

So, not only does God create, but He likes to create things that are interesting, imaginative, even strange to us. He could’ve just as easily made only one kind of semi-aquatic mammal and called it a day. He could’ve made one kind of sparrow or made sunrises all blue or made us all iron-based instead of carbon-based. Instead, He chose to create variety within each category of things. No two nebulae are the same, neither are any two species of turtle.

God is not limited, not in anything including His creativity!

Putting it into Action: Take a few minutes to look into any branch of science: physics, chemistry, biology, botany, any of them. Dig and try to uncover some new aspect of creation that you never knew before and contemplate the fact that God crafted it out of nothing. Give God the glory for what you find and tell a friend!
