More Pawverbs for Kids

Summary

More Pawverbs for Kids is a soon-to-be-released collection of animal-centric short stories for kids. Each one is delightfully written, with beautiful corresponding pictures and an apt verse from Proverbs.

Assessment

More Pawverbs for Kids has 30 short, easy-to-read stories focused on kids and their pets or other animals. Each true to life story has an accompanying Proverb to provide a wisdom-based focal point, as well as guiding questions and a short, related prayer. Additionally, each story gets 1-2 relevant pictures to bring a visual element to the story.

The purpose of the book is to bring the occasionally complex wisdom found in Proverbs in a more child-accessible way. The writing style is suitably simple for the target audience and should be easy for most children to read on their own. If not, the stories are also written in such a way that they could to read out loud with no difficulties, either.

The formatting of the book with the pictures is very organized and professional. The images themselves are very high-quality and charming. Sometimes they seem to be of the actual child and their pet from the story, other times it seems to be merely a representation, but either way they are well-chosen and adorable.

Talk

This was a delightful read! Well-made, professionally formatted, and incredibly thoughtful, this book is fabulous as a devotional, a prayer guide, or as a way to study the Bible and memorize verses.

At the end of each story was a handful of guiding questions, as well as a short prayer asking God for similar guidence or wisdom related to the Proverb. I thought the questions were very intelligent, but not too complex for a child; perfect to guide them and make them stop and pause (or paws…sorry…) and reflect on their behavior. The prayers were equally poignant, and I liked how short they were. Perfect for a little's attention span!

I felt like a few of the stories were a little bit of a stretch to match the Proverb however I never thought they were taking any liberties with Scripture to make it fit the narrative. And, often, the questions at the end actually helped to tie everything together in a neat package. Overall, this is an excellent little devotional or read for any kid, especially those who love animals!
