Cinematic, dynamic storytelling and action-packed adventure scenes, depicted in a colorful Manga-American fusion that interjects expressive emotions into epic superheroic sequences, all underscored with moments of deep, prayerful reflection punctuated by artistic lettering and stunning visuals.
The Chronicles of Faith series tells the stories of the well-known heroes of the Faith, depicted in a fresh and stunning manner. This striking visual series will draw in and deeply immerse the reader into the Biblical narratives by: exposing the humanity of the characters; illustrating God’s faithfulness, judgement, and forgiveness; and providing pointed and memorable examples of the awe-inspiring characteristics of God.
Chronicles of Faith-David is the first in this series, which revives and preserves the account in the books of Chronicles, echoing the story of David in a renewed and inspiring way. While illustrating what it means to trust the character of God, CoF-David will introduce a new generation to the truths of what God has done in the past, inspiring them to have faith.
This story takes place in the 11th century B.C. in Israel, at the beginning of the Bronze Age. At a time when the last giants walk the earth, God's people, in an act of selfish distrust, demand a king: Saul. But God Himself chooses a better King: a humble, yet brave shepherd boy from Bethlehem.
COF-David’s main idea is to show the reader the close, personal relationship between God and David, and how David deeply trusts God’s power and character. This will challenge the reader to come to know God more, trust Him like David did, and hopefully, become the hero of their own Chronicle of Faith.
Theme 1: Sharing your Faith Story. Unexpected and yet stunning, this theme in COF-David shows us a real world example of King David sharing his own faith story with his son, Solomon, who will one day be the next king of Israel. This inspires the reader to follow, in turn, sharing their own story of growing faith to others.
Theme 2: Fathers and Sons. At its core, COF-David is about the relationship between a father and a son. First and foremost, this is shown to the reader through the lens of King David and his son, Solomon, but also in the implied story of God and his Son, Jesus, and finally, in the inferred story of God and his adopted sons (and daughters): us.
Theme 3: God opposes the proud and exalts the humble. This theme is seen not only in the enemies defeated by King David, but also in the relationship of David to his Heavenly Father in that while David is not always an upright and moral figure, he hears God and responds with a humble and honest heart and is, thus, an example to the reader of faith worth emulating.
The Biblical narrative is always our primary source material, but this tale is not a word-by-word retelling of the Biblical story. Rather, it is an adaptation replete with the utmost respect and a focused desire to be loyal to the original story.
Other important sources include historical documents such as Flavius Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, stories of David from the Hebrew Talmud and critical cross-references from other books of the Holy Bible: 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Psalms, 1 & 2 Kings, and Acts.
"Chronicles of Faith: David issue 00 is a fun and creative approach to the life of David. Just when you think "ok yeah, I know how this story plays out," the dynamic shifts to be something altogether different, entertaining, and extremely well executed.
Taking the perspective from just being a biblical narrative to a heartfelt story being told from father to son while also incorporating new testament themes. Not only does the book feature exceptional visual art, but the writing has beautiful dialogue that hits to the soul with lines like "pay attention and you will see what God is like, and what He can do with a humble heart," or "remember, obedience is good for you."
There is heart, humor, reverence, and a clear desire to make this story alive to new and old audiences alike. It could stand proudly beside any comic on the shelves today."

"It is a sensitive story, showing a David with a certain degree of innocence, courage and at the same time with a strong sense of responsibility. What I like the most is that he has all the qualities of a child. Young children who discover Chronicles of Faith will want to identify with this character. It is not easy to find religious material that generates empathy. This one does. And it does it very well."
- Sebastian Gomez, writer/producer/artist
